Managing the Modern Interior Landscape: Palms, Performance, and Property Success

Whether you’re an interiorscape professional or resort property manager, this 1/2-day workshop will focus on interior landscapes to gain cutting-edge insights into palm care, pest control, and overall health of tropical foliage. Dive into expert-led sessions on innovative palm nutrition, transplant success, and integrated strategies for dealing with indoor and outdoor pests.

1 - 2:00 p.m. Light, Humidity & Temperature: Creating the Right Indoor Environment - Kim Moore, Ph.D., UF Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center, Davie, FL

Successful interior landscapes depend on more than choosing the right plants—they depend on creating an environment where those plants can thrive. This session will explore how light levels, humidity, and temperature affect plant health, growth, appearance, and longevity in interior environments. Attendees will learn how to recognize the signs of environmental stress, evaluate site conditions, select plants suited to specific environments, and make practical adjustments when conditions aren’t ideal. From challenging low-light spaces to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, this session will provide strategies for keeping interior plants healthy and looking their best.

2 - 3:00 p.m. Palms for Interior Landscapes: Choosing the Right Palm for the Right Space - Mica McMillan, Ph.D., UF Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center, Davie, FL

Palms can bring height, texture, movement, and a tropical feel to interior landscapes—but not every palm is suited for life indoors. This session will explore palms that perform well in interior environments and the factors to consider when selecting them, including light, temperature, humidity, growth habits, maintenance requirements, and available space. Attendees will gain practical insight into matching palm species with interior conditions and designing long-lasting, successful interiorscapes with palms.
