The Accidental Venue Owner: How Hospitality Changed the Business
1

Planterra began as an interior landscaping company. Our glass conservatory in West Bloomfield, Michigan, was built to support the plant business, but people kept asking to hold events there. What started as an unexpected opportunity became a venue business—and gave us a new way to understand the experience our clients have with us.

In this session, Planterra President and CEO Shane Pliska shares the story of adapting the conservatory for weddings and events while continuing to grow a national interiorscape company. He’ll discuss what the transition required, what he learned from entering the hospitality business, and how those lessons changed Planterra’s approach to communication, presentation, responsiveness, and service.

Attendees will leave with ideas they can apply to their own businesses, whether or not they ever host an event. A plant installation is more than a finished space: every interaction around it shapes how a client feels about the work.
