Growing Great Horticulturists
1

What does it take to turn a new hire into a confident, capable horticulturist who understands their role, takes ownership, and grows with your organization? It starts with the first 12 weeks.

This interactive session will walk through a practical 12-week training journey designed to build strong horticultural skills and confident team members from day one. Explore what new employees need to learn, when they need to learn it, and how supervisors can create the structure, support, and accountability that turn training into lasting development.

Participants will examine the supervisor’s role in setting expectations, coaching in the field, providing meaningful feedback, and developing employees beyond simply teaching them how to complete a task. Through interactive activities and real-world examples, we’ll explore how to coach, train, and develop horticulturists who understand the “why” behind their work, take pride in what they do, and ultimately own their roles.  Whether you are onboarding new team members or developing the next generation of horticultural professionals, this session will provide practical tools and strategies you can put to work immediately.
